Witch one

I have always been infatuated with the idea of ability, what some might call magic, power or a gift.

Imagine thinking and wanting something to happen and it does. pronouncing word in poetic form and your will imposed on everything around you, to have what you want but then of course the old adage comes into play:

“Be careful what you wish for”

A spell, in essence could consist of a set of words, a formula or verse, or a ritual action, or any combination of these. Spells traditionally were cast by many methods, such as by the inscription of runes or sigils on an object to give it magical powers; by the immolation or binding of a wax or clay image (poppet) of a person to affect him or her magically; by the recitation of incantations; by the performance of physical rituals; by the employment of magical herbs as amulets or potions; by gazing at mirrors, swords or other specula (scrying) for purposes of divination; and by many other means.

Strictly speaking, “necromancy” is the practice of conjuring the spirits of the dead for divination or
prophecy – although the term has also been applied to raising the dead for other purposes.

Although it is warned that to attempt to bring back of those who have died could be disastrous as they can never be the same, it is a practice heavily frowned upon.

But what is a spell really ? is it not equal to  a prayer for your deepest desire, calling out to be heard and even then one is cautioned about casting for personal gain, but everything has to do with belief doesn't it.

The association of ideas, that a certain result follows a certain action- if you can control something (if you  believe you  can) you can affect or control the action it results in.

the performance of magic almost always results in the use of language, whether it is spoken out aloud or unspoken, words are frequently used to access or guide magical power but there is also the argument that the connection between language is due to the belief of the inherent ability of words to influence the universe around us (ie. prayer and positive thought).

According to BronisÅ‚aw Malinowski, in Coral Gardens and their Magic the extension of man’s basic use of language to describe his surroundings, in which “the knowledge of the right words, appropriate phrases and the more highly developed forms of speech, gives man a power over and above his own limited field of personal action.” Magical speech is therefore a ritual act and is of equal or even greater importance to the performance of magic than non-verbal acts.

Magic and religion are categories of beliefs and systems of knowledge and, although generally considered distinct categories  the interactions, similarities and differences have been central to the study of magic for theorists, magic is often considered most analogous to science and technology.

Aleister Crowley preferred the spelling magick, defining it as “the science and art of causing change to occur in conformity with the will.” By this, he included “mundane” acts of change as well as ritual
magic. In Magick in Theory and Practice, Chapter XIV, Crowley says:

What is a Magical Operation? It may be defined as any event in nature which is brought to pass by WILL. We must not exclude potato-growing or banking from our definition. Let us take a very simple example of a Magical Act: that of a man blowing his nose.

The Pentagram is the symbol which at each of its corners is the elements water, fire, air and earth with the spirit at the highest point. This is for the working wards and the upliftment or spiritual enlightenment . When enclosed in a circle it represents protection.

People have always feared magic and the very idea of spells but when you simply compare this to any other religious belief or prayer. what is the difference really. it is simply the belief in something greater than yourself.

Spell is something sent put to the heavens from your heart, with a mind that has been taught that whatever you ask for must return to you by the threefold law. Three times Three. What you want and wish for others will return to you three times more than what was sent from you.

So if you cast a spell for harm onto others harm will be done to you three times worse than what you ever imagined. and yet most people in prayer do not see it this way. so the one casting a spell will be even more careful for what they “wish” than the one prayer. with the simple thought that if it not what my god wishes it will not happen. but the caster of a spell will be keeping in mind that even if what i want does not come to pass i will either still be punished or blessed depending on the through alone as it has already been put into the universe.
